“Open Book” Tests

Question: What do you think of open book tests? 

Answer: It depends on the competency you are testing for. Is this something the learners need to know or quickly be able to figure out when on the job? Then the answer is you shouldn’t use an open book format test. But, if the nature of the job is such that a person has reasonable time to look up the information, or may be expected to use external resources to figure out an answer, then open book testing is appropriate
